What We Do

In today’s rapidly moving political environment, building the consensus necessary to pass good legislation - or to stop bad policy from becoming law – takes expert representation from a team that understands the complexities of state government and has the knowledge to navigate the process.  At Electus Governmental Affairs, we have the experience, reputation, and relationships to help our clients achieve their goals and get results.  The following are just some of the services we provide:

Direct Lobbying

At Electus Governmental Affairs, we work collaboratively with our clients to achieve their policy objectives. We engage directly with key decision-makers at the federal, state and local levels to propose, support, and/or oppose legislation on behalf of our clients. Additionally, we draft and review bills, recruit bill sponsors, educate lawmakers and agency leaders on newly proposed and existing policy, and shepherd proposed legislation through the legislative process. Most importantly, we focus on legislative and regulatory advocacy.

Government Affairs Consulting

Electus GR professionals advise clients in establishing priorities, defining policy objectives, and identifying allies and opponents. Using that information, we leverage our expertise and extensive network in order to develop an effective, and ultimately successful, governmental relations strategy.

Securing Appropriations

North Carolina operates on a biennial budget, meaning the state budget covers two fiscal years. Adjustments are allowed to the state budget for the second year of the biennium. Our team provides strategic guidance to clients to ensure their budgetary goals are met, whether it be securing funding in the state budget, or ensuring a state agency adequately funds a project/program important to the client. We identify funding opportunities, assist in drafting funding proposals, build support with legislators and agency leaders, and ensure compliance requirements are met.

Monitoring and Reporting

The Electus team closely monitors legislative bill filings and movement through the committee process, providing weekly client updates while the legislature is in session. We cover pertinent legislative and agency meetings on behalf of our clients in order to provide strategic guidance on how best to meet policy objectives.

Coalition Building

Our GR team assists in forming alliances between multiple organizations or groups to achieve a common legislative or regulatory goal. We do this by establishing and maintaining relationships with other influential stakeholders, both within and outside of North Carolina. Often, a collective group of stakeholders will coordinate an advocacy campaign and work together to execute a strategic plan on behalf of like-minded clients.

Research and Analysis

Electus professionals are skilled at researching the key policy issues important to our clients. We determine if there is relevant historical information our clients should be made aware of, and we investigate similar policies in other states, jurisdictions, or at the federal level for use in our advocacy efforts on our clients’ behalf. The information we gather plays a vital role in the governmental affairs strategy.

When We're Needed

Governmental affairs can benefit a wide range of organizations and businesses, not just large corporations.  Whether it be a small business, trade association, or nonprofit, engaging a professional lobbyist can be valuable when there are specific legislative and/or regulatory goals that need to be achieved with decision-makers at the local, state and federal levels.  Indicators that your organization may benefit from engaging a governmental affairs professional include:

  • Your business, organization, or nonprofit has specific legislative or regulatory objectives requiring advocacy efforts
  • You would like to improve access to key stakeholders, including legislators and agency leaders
  • You have a desire to gain greater industry influence
  • You want a seat at the table during pertinent policy discussions
